“A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.”
– Josh Billings
I swear it’s all in the writing – my love, fears, dreams, experiences, everything.
I am the space between every word, and the apostrophes throughout. You’ll see that all I have done is survive, but I have loved regardless. People, places, things – y’know… nouns; I have loved it all.
I don’t do this to show off or tell stories. I love writing… and I pay a monthly subscription on a non-profit salary… so I have to write here.
But I also love walking, cooking, listening to music, observing – I notice everything really. I see the random people who walk down my street; I hear the birds and bugs outside, and I want to know more! Where are they going? What bird is that? Why is chartreuse called chartreuse?
That’s a serious question… why is it called chartreuse? It’s bright green, but its name implies it’s a deep red, like an evil red…
I answer stuff like that here, and maybe advise like “let’s name it something more fitting like… candied green apple… or something else, whatever Big Color wants, it’s not up to me”.
I care a lot about a lot of things.
I know you’re gonna ask so….
“Why ‘anticanine’?
I chose the name for this blog after a conversation with my boyfriend and his former roommate. His roommate has a dog, and at the time had jerky or a Slim Jim or something that obviously this dog wanted. Long story short, he told his dog that the snack he had was off limits and jokingly said the snack said “no dogs” written on the label.
After a good laugh (you had to be there), I started thinking about “canine poetry” and how much I resonated with this subculture of poetry.
Then, I realized how much I hated feeling like a people-pleaser, a pushover, a doormat, a dog.
“Why do you have a blog?”
I’ve always wanted a blog. I have tried a few times in the past to maintain blogs. My first one was on Tumblr when I was like 14, and I just posted an “aesthetic” of an unknown origin. Then, once in college, I tried running a pretentious blog about music everyone has heard.
I love writing, and I love having a space to just post whatever I want while I try to navigate a young adulthood.
